Thane railway station was the terminus for India’s first passenger train on April 16, 1853, from Bori Bunder (now Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus), covering 34 km with three locomotives (Sahib, Sindh, and Sultan) and carrying about 400 passengers.
